Carolyn Custis James has written a thought-provoking little book called “The Gospel of Ruth.” She says the “gospel of Ruth” is that God brings Ruth and Boaz together not just for their own sake but to advance God’s kingdom. “They accomplish more together than either of them could have done separately … Their relationship underscores the Bible’s message about human relationships – namely, that men and women need each other.”
Also “they are caught up in a purpose that is bigger than both of them. Their shared passion to live for Yahweh (God) frees them from bogging down over lesser matters and unites them to focus on kingdom issues – like justice, mercy, compassion and hesed” (covenant love).
Today we conclude the sermons on Ruth but we will continue our “Redeeming Relationships” for another two weeks as we look at marriage and singleness from 1 Corinthians 7.
