This is a series looking at one of the Apostle Paul’s longest letters. Corinth is in modern-day Greece and was a thriving commercial centre due to its proximity to the sea. As a church it certainly had its problems. But then what church doesn’t have problems?

What does it mean to live to the glory of God?
For Paul, living to God’s glory covered every decision, every day. There was no corner of life that could be reserved for one’s own glory. What is striking is how Paul connects this Godward life with mission. Living for the glory of God means living in a way that is mindful of others and their salvation. Particularly, in today’s passage, 1 Corinthians 10:23-11:1, it means that in our personal decisions we may promote the gospel to others rather than hinder them either from coming to Christ or from growing in their relationship with him.
